Overcomer Essentials: A testimony and the blood of the Lamb

"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death." Revelation 12:11

The Mechanics of Overcoming

My personal understanding of this verse is that to overcome and maintain our victory, we require two essential pillars. First, we need the blood of the Lamb. The blood serves as our insurance against spiritual death and our guarantee of eternal life. Second, we need a testimony.

Defining the Testimony

A testimony is more than just a story; it is a personal declaration of God’s power. It is the act of sharing what He has done in a person’s life, specifically regarding salvation and transformation. In the hands of a believer, a testimony functions as a spiritual weapon to build faith.

It is our internal assurance that God is real and that His name is Jesus Christ. A testimony is a supernatural act performed by God in one’s life to prove that a specific deliverance or manifestation could only have come from the Divine Creator who is above all things. It is something so undeniable that you can only ascribe it to the supernatural hand of God.

The Toolkit for Victory

To be an overcomer, we must lay hold of these truths. We need:

1. The Blood of the Lamb (Our covering)

2. The Word of Their Testimony (Our evidence)

3. His Word (Our foundation)

If you find yourself lacking any of these, the scripture encourages us to ask God, who gives to all liberally. He does not hold back, find fault, or scold those who seek Him. To stand firm, you need the testimony of His work and the covering of His blood.
